Whether a device is eSIM-compatible depends on whether the manufacturer includes an eSIM module in its device. That's why we've compiled a list of eSIM-compatible devices for your convenience.
But in some cases, even if a device is listed as eSIM-enabled, it may not actually support the technology.
Android is an open source operating system, which means that any mobile device manufacturer or operator can customize it. Therefore, in some countries and regions, specific models released may not have eSIM functionality; or the operator of the device you purchased may not have enabled eSIM functionality.
Please follow the steps below to check if your Android device supports eSIM technology. Please note that these steps may or may not apply to your device. The best way to confirm eSIM functionality is still to check with your device manufacturer, supplier, or major carrier.
1. Query through device settings and EID information
1. View directly through device settings
Different brands of Android devices may have slightly different setup paths. Here are the steps for common brands:
Samsung Galaxy devices
- Open your device's Settings app.
- Go to Connections or Network & Internet options.
- Tap SIM manager or SIM card manager .
- If the Add eSIM or Add Mobile Network option appears on the page, it means that the device supports eSIM.
Google Pixel devices
- Open the Settings app.
- Enter the Network and the Internet .
- Tap the SIM card option.
- If you see options such as Download new SIM or Activate via QR code when adding a SIM card, your device supports eSIM.
2. Query EID through device information
The EID (Embedded SIM Identifier) is the unique identifier of the eSIM. If the device supports eSIM, the EID can usually be found in the device information. This method is applicable to Samsung, Google Pixel and other brand devices (such as Huawei, OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, etc.):
- Method 1 : Enter *#06# on the dialer screen. If the displayed information contains EID or IMEI (eSIM) , the device supports eSIM.
- Method 2 : Go to Settings > About phone > Status information or SIM card status and find the EID field.
2. Check if the device is locked by the carrier
If your device is carrier-locked, you may not be able to use eSIM services from other carriers. You can check this by:
- Method 1 : Remove the current physical SIM card and insert a SIM card from another carrier. If the device can be recognized and connected to the network, it means it has been unlocked.
- Method 2 : Query through device settings:
- Go to Settings > About Phone > Status Information and check if there is a network lock status prompt.
- For some devices, you can find the network unlocking option in Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network .
- Method 3 : Contact the original carrier and provide the device's IMEI number to check the lock status. Some carriers support online unlocking applications (such as AT&T, Verizon, etc.).
