How to check if your iOS device supports eSIM?
Whether a device is eSIM-compatible depends on whether the manufacturer has integrated an eSIM module into its device. Therefore, there is usually a dedicated list of eSIM-compatible devices for users to check.
However, even if a device is marked as supporting eSIM in the list, it may not be supported in actual use.
Although iOS devices are uniformly designed by Apple, carriers may customize them. In some countries and regions, specific iOS device models may not have the eSIM feature enabled, or the carrier you purchased your device from may not provide eSIM service.
Below are the steps to check if your iOS device supports eSIM technology. Please note that these steps may vary depending on the device model and system version. The most reliable way to confirm eSIM functionality is to consult the device manufacturer, supplier, or local carrier.
1. Judging by device model
Not all iOS devices support eSIM. The following are common device models that support eSIM:
- iPhone : iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and subsequent models (except iPhone SE 2nd generation and some later models, need to be confirmed specifically).
- iPad : iPad Pro (3rd generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), iPad (7th generation and later), and iPad mini (5th generation and later) with cellular network.
- If your device model is not in the above list, it is likely that it does not support eSIM; if it is in the list, you can further confirm it through the device settings.
2. Query through device settings and EID information
1. View directly through device settings
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
- Tap the Cellular or Mobile Data option.
- If the Add Cellular Number or Set Up eSIM option appears on the page, it means that the device supports eSIM.
2. Query EID through device information
EID (Embedded SIM Identifier) is the unique identifier of eSIM. iOS devices that support eSIM can find EID in the following locations:
- Method 1 : Open Settings > General > About and find the EID field in the device information.
- Method 2 : Enter *#06# on the dial screen. If the displayed information contains EID , the device supports eSIM.
3. Check if the device is locked by the carrier
If your iOS device is carrier-locked, you may not be able to use eSIM services from other carriers. You can check this by:
- Method 1 : Remove the current physical SIM card (if any) and insert a SIM card from another carrier. If the device can be recognized and connected to the network, it means it is unlocked.
- Method 2 : Query through device settings:
- Go to Settings > General > About this device and check whether there is a carrier lock . If it shows "No SIM card restrictions", the device is unlocked.
- Method 3 : Contact the original carrier and provide the device's IMEI code (found in Settings > General > About ) to check the lock status. Some carriers support online unlocking applications.
